Side-scrolling Shooter ‘Space Deadbeef’ Awesome and Free!

I’ve played my fair share of iPhone shoot ‘em up side-scrollers, the majority were plain bad. I started to think, maybe the iPhone just isn’t a good platform for that type of game, then comes Space Deadbeef (Free) out of left field.

Space Deadbeef is unbelievably good, especially when considering its price tag, free!

After firing up the Space Deadbeef, the first thing I noticed was the graphics, the game looked sharp, not bad for a 2D side-scroller. The missile animation and explosions are fun to watch too.

The controls handle quite well, just tap on the enemy aircraft to fire missiles at them, you can hold and drag your finger across groups of enemies, once you lift your finger, a flurry of missiles will rocket towards your targets.

To dodge incoming fire, you can move your aircraft by tapping on the screen, a horizontal line will appear, the aircraft will move towards this horizontal line. Now this can be a bit tricky if the screen is cluttered with enemies, you could end up tapping on the enemy, when you really wanted to move your aircraft to dodge incoming fire.

If you are looking for a good shoot ‘em up side-scroller, I’d definitely recommend this one.
